Bansko Municipality comprises the most beautiful part of the Pirin Mountains, parts of the Razlog valley, from the picturesque gorge of Momina Places and Dubrava share of Rodopite.Teritoriyata comes up to 49,621 hectares. The terrain is flat along the river valleys to hilly in the mountain and foothill area. The climate is continental with Mediterranean influence , and in the higher mountainous areas . Summers are short and cool and winters are snowy, soft and long . The average January temperature is – 1.9 degrees Celsius, the snow in the resort stayed an average of 6 months in the year and summer temperatures are +25 , +35 degrees Celsius.
In 1962, the Office for the Protection of Nature pronounces the most beautiful part of Pirin National Park ‘ Vihren . ” In 1974 it was expanded and renamed the National Park “Pirin”. Since 1999 . Minister of Environment and Water categorized Park National Park “Pirin” area 40332 ha. Within its boundaries are included reserves ” Dupki Djindjiritsa ” and ” Ulen” . This small piece of paradise includes in itself centuries-old spruce- white fir forests, large shrub formations , mountain meadows and rocky cliffs , deep cirques and emerald lakes. Because of this unique nature National Park “Pirin ” is recognized as a site of global significance and by order of UNESCO from 1983 is included in the Convention on the Protection of World Heritage. Within the municipality includes the following settlements : Bansko and seven villages : Bansko, Mesta, Kremen , Obidim, Gostun, Philipovo and Osenovo.
