Over the years in Bansko, more than twenty big bands have played. In addition to the traditional participants from the Big Band of BNR with conductor Yanko Miladinov, who usually open the event, here were the large formations of Vili Kazasyan, Georgi Borisov, Angel Saberski, Big Band Blagoevgrad, several orchestras from Germany, among them IKS Big Band, “Kelag Big Band” from Austria. And on the tenth edition we heard perhaps the most unusual orchestra in the history of the festival – SHAPE International Big Band, which is part of the official NATO orchestra. The 16th edition also features “Elmhurst” College Jazz Band with conductor Doug Beach from the United States.
On the other hand, the modern face of “free music”. Although with a completely different character, the ethno-styles also have a place in the poster of the event. “Krakau Band” from Indonesia, Yahya Khalil band from Egypt, our “Bulgara”, and also Stoyan and Elitsa, who were on stage for the premiere of “Drumboy”. In the ninth edition of the festival for the first time in front of a Bulgarian audience, Vlatko Stefanovski, Miroslav Tadic and Theodosius Spasov were together on stage, and the music from their project “Third Mother” was another sixth on the world stages.
